Standard 1 - Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge
Standard 1
Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge
Physical education teacher candidates know and apply discipline-specific scientific and theoretical concepts critical to the development of physically educated individuals.
Artifact: Heart Rate and Pedometer Project
Date: Spring 2015
Reflection: This project was based on classroom data during lesson plan teachings. Each activity a student was wearing a pedometer to measure how many steps they were taking, then at the end of the activity each student took their heart rate. Each measurement was then written down with the type of activity as well as how they felt afterwards. The data was plotted into a table then onto a line graph. Students were then to compare the number of steps to their heart rates. This Heart Rate and Pedometer project helps to show standard 1 because this demonstrates my ability to understand the use of scientific data in a physical education setting. By comparing the heart rate and the number of steps students will be able to see the cause and effect of activity. They can then research what raising the heart rate can do for their body physiologically. By doing this project, I'm able to benefit as a teacher and help my students in the future do their own projects in physical education.
